As you know from our previous blog posts June is “acne awareness month” and we are wrapping up this month by bringing more awareness about acne, its aftermath, and post acne treatments to the forefront! If you have acne or experience constant breakouts then you might experience common skin issues like acne scars, pimples, inflammation, uneven skin texture, excess oiliness, or flaky skin. So today we are talking about LED LIGHT THERAPY and its benefits for healing acne-prone skin.
WHAT IS LED LIGHT THERAPY? SHOULD YOU TRY IT? DOES IT WORK? DOES IT HURT? These are the most common questions you might be asking.
Led Light Therapy is used in skincare as a treatment to help heal and rejuvenate the skin in various stages. It’s known to help treat acne, reduce inflammation, improve collagen, reduce wrinkles, and fine lines overtime, reduce redness, and even help fade dark spots from acne scars. LED light therapy comes in different wavelengths (some people refer to it as frequencies). The most common wavelengths used are blue light, green light, red light, and yellow light. Each LED wavelength serves a different purpose to healing or treating the skin. Let’s look at some of the key differences and which is recommended for acne-prone skin.
******************************************************************************************************************************
Blue Light- is anti-inflammatory and when aimed directly at the skin it can help to kill acne-causing bacteria beneath the surface of the skin which can lead to clearing up severe pimples and cysts.
Green Light- the theory here is that when the green wavelength makes contact with the skin it helps to heal acne scars, fade dark spots overtime, and helps get rid hyperpigmentation (the typical aftermath of breakouts).
Red Light- this is an anti-aging wavelength that treats the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis). When red light is aimed at the outer layer of skin, the skin stimulates collagen proteins. When your collagen is boosted this means improved blood circulation, smoother, tighter skin, and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles ultimately making the skin look more youthful over time.
Yellow Light- is said to help reduce irritation for skin conditions like rosacea, redness, spider veins, or sun damage. It is also a better option of LED for sensitive skin.
