Truth: UV Rays are very strong and can still penetrate through the clouds
Truth: Some sun is great for a little Vitamin D to the skin but too much sun exposure can cause issues like sun damage or even skin cancer.
Truth: All skin tones need sun protection! Even darker skin. Skin cancer does not discriminate towards color and anyone is susceptible to it if they don't protect their skin.
Truth: The sunscreen you use should always be BROAD SPECTRUM and should have zinc and/or titanium dioxide. These are not harmful ingredients; they are designed to further protect the skin from harmful UV rays.
Truth: Tanning puts you at risk of getting sun burn or sun damage. And those can both take quite a long time to correct.
Truth: Sunscreen wears off after so many hours (yes even water-resistant sunscreen). It wears off from things like sweat and water so it needs to be reapplied throughout the day when exposed to the sun for long periods of time.
Truth: Most cosmetic products might include SPF 15 (for example like in your foundation or powder) however this is a very small (potent) amount and is mixed in with so many other ingredients that it is not adequate protection alone for your skin.
Truth: Not all sunscreens with a higher SPF are better. Some sunscreens with a higher SPF can irritate the skin or cause reactions leading to skin sensitivity. Believe it or not SPF 30, 50, 75, and 100 all offer the same amount of sun protection against UV rays. (SPF 15 is the only dose that is low and doesn't provide enough protection).
Truth: If you work indoors but keep your blinds or curtains opened or are exposed to natural lighting and sunlight throughout the day then SPF should be worn! (Yes even though you are indoors). UV rays are extremely strong and can even penetrate through windows to cause sn burn or sun damage.
